How to Sell Seat-Based Group Enrollment

Sell a course access plan that lets one buyer purchase several seats at once, then manage the resulting group and invite people to fill the remaining seats.

Requirements

1. Enable group enrollment on the access plan

In the WordPress admin, edit the course and scroll to the Access Plans box. Open the plan you want to sell as a group plan. The settings below are added by LifterLMS Groups.

  1. Set Use for Group Enrolment to Yes, use for group enrolment. The seat settings appear beneath it.
  2. Choose a Seat Selection mode:
    • Fixed — every purchase includes the same number of seats. Enter the number in Seats.
    • Variable — the buyer chooses how many seats to purchase at checkout. Enter the allowed range in Min Seats and Max Seats.
  3. Click Save on the plan.

The plan price is multiplied by the number of seats at checkout, so enter the price of a single seat.

2. Place the Course Access Plans widget

Open the page or template where the plan is sold in the Elementor editor and add the Course Access Plans widget from the Lifter Elements category. It lists every plan on the course, so use it on a course sales page or in a course template. See Course Access Plans.

No widget setting is needed for seats. The widget reads the plan's group settings and inserts the seat selector before each plan's enroll button on its own.

Which widgets show the seat selector

The Pricing Table widget also shows it, because it outputs LifterLMS's own pricing table and LifterLMS Groups adds its seat fields there. The Access Plan Button widget does not: it links straight to the plan's checkout page without a seat field, so use it only where the seat count is chosen elsewhere.

3. Check the seat selector on the front end

Publish the page and view it as a visitor. What appears above the enroll button depends on the plan's Seat Selection mode.

Fixed shows a static Seats: label with the number set on the plan. The buyer cannot change it.

Variable shows a Seats number field limited to the plan's Min Seats and Max Seats. It starts at the minimum, and the buyer can change it before clicking the enroll button.

Result

The buyer selects a seat count and checks out through the standard LifterLMS purchase flow, with the total priced per seat. When the order completes, LifterLMS Groups:

  1. Creates a new group linked to the course and the order, with the purchased number of seats.
  2. Enrolls the buyer as the group's primary administrator. The buyer occupies one seat, so a five-seat purchase leaves four seats for other people.
  3. Lets the administrator fill the remaining seats from the group's Members tab, either by inviting people by email or by sharing the group's open invitation link. Invitations and members both count against the seat total; once the seats are used, the open link stops accepting new members.
tip

Build the page the buyer lands on after checkout — group name, seats in use, invitation link, and course card — with an Elementor Theme Builder template. See the Group landing page template worked example.
