10. FAQ

What's the difference between a membership and a license?

A membership (WooCommerce Memberships) grants access for as long as the membership is active, and you attach LearnDash courses to it with Course Enrolment rules. A license is a purchasable unit of access you sell through a product; it grants the LearnDash content configured on it and can expire on its own schedule. Memberships suit ongoing individual access; licenses suit bundled or one-off access and selling to organizations. You can use both.

Do I need WooCommerce Subscriptions?

You need it if you sell subscription-based licenses.

Do I need Teams for WooCommerce Memberships?

Only if you use team memberships — where one buyer provides membership for a group, and you want teams mirrored into LearnDash groups.

I granted access to a course but nothing happened. Why?

The course is probably free or open, which everyone can access regardless — so a grant has no visible effect. Test with a closed course. See Troubleshooting.

A member still has access after their membership ended. Why?

They most likely still hold that access another way — a second active membership, a license, or the course being free. MemberSync only removes access a member doesn't otherwise have.

I changed a plan's courses but not everyone has access yet.

Plan changes re-sync members in the background, in batches, so on large plans it isn't instant. Give it a little time.

Can I use memberships, licenses, and organizations together?

Yes. They're different ways to grant the same thing — LearnDash access — and can be combined on one site.
